Volunteer Opportunity for Special Projects:
Cylburn Arboretum Association

 

Goal of Position: Provide additional support for large or unexpected                               projects in the greenhouse on an 
                            “on-call/as- needed” basis.

 

Sample Activities:

 

- Plant sale setup - prepare plants for sale, pricing, labeling, and sign preparation.

- Spring planting - setting up and filling pots, planting plugs, spacing plants in the greenhouse.

- Miscellaneous plant maintenance - any unexpected job that needs extra hands, such as mum disbudding, lantana tree pruning, etc.

- Holiday help - selecting, foiling, and sleeving poinsettias; cutting greens for workshops or decorations; foiling Easter lilies, etc.

- Poinsettia propagation - a short term project lasting only a few mornings per year.

Estimated Total Hours: 2 - 10 hours 


Scheduling: On Call

 

Worksite: Cylburn Arboretum Greenhouses

 

Qualifications Sought:

 

- Access to and communicate via e-mail

- Tolerant of variable temperatures

- Flexible schedule (available on short notice)

 

Additional Information:

 

Projects may last anywhere from one day to two weeks, and these volunteers will be valued for any or all of the shifts during that project. Volunteers will have the option of refusing a particular project due to unavailability, or may specify particular jobs that they are not interested in at all. Sometimes the request will go out to everyone on the “special projects” list, and sometimes the request will go out to specific individuals if only one or two people are needed.
